Kongsberg Maritime has received $40 million contract to supply equipment for the first Wind Turbine Installation Vessel being built in the United States.

The WTIV is under construction at the Keppel AmFELS shipyard in Brownsville, Texas for U.S. energy company Dominion Energy. The new WTIV, one of the biggest of its kind in the world, will be able to transport and install several sets of next-generation wind turbines and their foundations for offshore wind projects slated for the U.S. East Coast.

The vessel will be the first vessel of its type to be built within the requirements of the Jones Act, which will apply to renewable energy production on the U.S. federal waters.
